My first experience as part of a theatre group was with The Broadside Mobile Workers Theatre, collectively writing and performing plays and music throughout the UK. We would write about current issues – 'housing' and 'The NHS' and perform the plays in factories, hospitals and community centres. This experience made a good basis for the songwriting which came later.
After The Arts Council cut our grant, we joined the 'Unemployment Marches' with a Song Review which we later took to various parts of the country supporting campaigns.
