Voices ('86)

This album was trouble right from the start. Orlake Record Company refused to press it because it includes songs inspired by the people and the situation in Northern Ireland i.e. songs about the use of plastic bullets, the treatment of Irish prisoners on remand, and the behaviour of the British troops. I did finally find a back-street organization who agreed to press the record though it was banned in Northern Ireland. Live performances sometimes caused problems with angry members of the audience, often depending on where the performance took place. But the album also gives voice to other members of our society here in England who "had something to say". Most of the songs were made after lengthy recorded interviews with those people, and while the content informed the lyrics, their speech patterns inspired the music. It was engineered and mixed at Islington Workshop Studios.
