Wishes ('83)

The original version was written for and performed by a class of 11-12 year-olds at Minchenden Comprehensive in Enfield, and was entered into the GLC Song For Peace Competition. It won the first prize of £1000. It was then recorded in a professional studio with a band chosen by the GLC and should have been distributed, but after it was played on Radio 4 on the morning news program, I was accused of using children to make political points! The GLC would have nothing more to do with me and the recording was not distributed. However, the prize money enabled me to buy my first recording equipment and set me off on my songwriting career.

I later re-recorded the song with 4 older children with Andy Stennet (keyboard player of 'Freeze'), but again failed to get it distributed.

Finally, I put the verses into various languages and it became part of my own program when singing abroad in festivals.
